It's time to get to work

Hey,

So I'm sure everyone else has been working, but I've been slacking and this is the week that my work habits change.
So, I'm getting to work. Daily output, challenges, word count goals and deadlines. I need them all, because I'm at my core - lazy - and a procrastinator.
This summer has probably been my worst yet for getting anything accomplished. Now I have excuses, a lot going on personally and in my real job, but that settles now, so I'm putting together a weekly plan and sticking to it. Or Maureen will shame me. Possibly publicly.

The other thing I'm going to do is focus more on better eating and exercise. I have a lot going on in my life, a full time job, kids, writing, and it is a delicate balance maintaining it all, but I also find I sleep better when I'm physically active and I'm more alert, so fitting in a few hours a week of exercise is key for me.

This means less TV. Which is not a bad thing, given I wasted an hour last night on some abomination of a program feature a Spelling woman and her ridiculously overpriced condo. And maybe a lot less house hunters too. I'm going to go for the quality over quantity route.

I'm pretty sure I do this every September. I announce I'm getting to work, and then I hunker down for a few months. I'm doing this again, and looking forward to getting my writing house in order.

Anyone else in the same boat, or am I the only one that blew off work for the summer?

I was actually super productive this spring and summer, but my kids are 19 and 21 and I had school assignments with hard deadlines.

Fall is actually usually my most productive season. Something about the back to school vibe and the cooling temperatures, I think.

I love fall too for getting refocused. I have so much going on and just want to get to it. 2 novellas, a massive day job project, and moving are all about to happen.

I also need to get focused again on losing weight, eating better, drinking less and just overall health... because I'm going to need to be healthy to handle everything.

Or I'll need to be drinking to handle everything...

One or the other.

I smell a Storytelling Rules exercise and healthy eating support group starting!

I love Fall, everything about it from work habits to clothes, to the temperatures.
But it's usually a time where I take stock and see what could change for the better. Steph, I'm with you, eating better and drinking less and getting a little more exercise would be great.
And Eilleen, great idea, a support group. We should totally do that...

I would love a healthy eating and exercise support group! My dad's in the hospital right now and it's a real wake up call for my future if I don't get back on track!

And I feel all ambitious right now, too. I wonder how many days it'll last... ;)

I wasted an hour on that stupid condo show too! And a few more on a house hunters marathon - those shows are like crack, once you're in you can't stop!

oh and I'm with you. Hard core with you on getting myself back to productivity.

Hey, Molly, this post really resonated with me because I've been dealing with the same kind of stuff lately--work, writing, eating, exercise. I think everyone goes through this.

Unfortunately, I'm in the opposite boat; I worked too hard this summer, and things are only heating up more this fall. I wish I could dial it back a notch and take some time for myself, but I'm struggling to do that even a little bit.

I hear you with the organization. It helps refocus my attention, and I need to start doing it or something's going to give - namely, me.
