Fall TV

The other night I was talking to Molly and Sinead and said something about TV starting up in a few weeks and we started thinking about what we were looking forward to and couldn’t come up with anything.

True Blood and Mad Men are already going. We had Friday Night Lights over the summer. Lost is over and Heroes died for me at least a season before it was cancelled, so it was hard to have that school’s starting excitement about the fall TV season.

But when I thought about it more, I did come up with a few things.

Vampire Diaries is starting up again soon, and I really did enjoy the first season, a lot.

Really hoping this second season of Modern Family is as good as the first. I do still love that show and am definitely looking fwd to it starting up, again. I hope/pray the writing will stay as strong in the second season.

Glee I’m hopeful about, too, but am terrified they’re about to, or have already, jumped the shark. But sounds like there will be some new characters, so as long as they don’t abandon their campy fun attitude from the earliest episodes, I’ll enjoy that, too.

On the drama front… I have to say, I can’t wait for Grey’s Anatomy. I know this is a love it or hate it show, but I’ve always been in the love it camp. Where I lost interest in other long running shows like this after four or so seasons, I still love Grey's. I find the characters compelling and well rounded and 3 dimensional -- even if they’re unrealistically pretty -- the men and the women -- for doctors. I’ve never seen female friendship depicted on TV like the relationship between Meredith and Christina, and that season finale last spring. Wow. That was the most tense 2 hours of TV I’ve seen in a long time. Maybe ever. And it’s interesting to see that one of the Dr.’s killed off in that episode has been resurrected as a nurse on Mad Men. ;)

I haven’t been paying much attention to the new shows for this season, except that it’s been hard to avoid the ads for The Event, even though I watch almost all my TV on DVR these days and therefore skip most of the ads.

What are you looking forward to this fall? What have I missed?

I'm loving Haven (the past episodes are online if you want to catch up). That's the only tv show I'm currently watching.

Kimber, we've been enjoying Haven, too. We've only caught a couple of episodes. I did feel like the plot line of the two episodes we caught were a little too similar, but I loved the characters and thought the acting was great. I love the main character. She's just kick ass enough for me to want to be her, but not so kick ass that she seems like she has superpowers.

I am, of course, looking forward to Sh!t My Dad Says! We're planning an opening night viewing party in my mom's room at the senior care facility. Come on by.:-)

House. They haven't lost me yet. And Bones. Definitely Bones. And Glee as well. Those are my top three.

Beyond that, I love How I Met Your Mother, though I DVR it since it's on at the same time as House. Lie to Me has already started. Two and a Half Men I also DVR.

Ooh! Castle! I'm looking forward to Castle starting again.

Thanks for the recommendations, everyone!

I saw an ad for Haven, but didn't feel compelled to watch. I'll check it out, though. The premise does sound interesting.

House lost me at least a season ago, I'm afraid. I don't dislike it, just don't like it enough to prioritize it in my life...

I'll have to check out Shit My Dad Says, of course. Can't wait to hear whether or not the leads are anything like your uncle and cousin, Eileen.

Castle... I've seen a few episodes, and while I heart Nathan Fillion, big time, I never got into the show. But it's one that I'm pretty sure I would've liked if I'd given it a chance. As is stands, I watched 2-3 random episodes, which wasn't enough to get interested in any multi-episode plot lines... and I'm just not very into murder-mystery type shows...

Good luck with the contest, Mad Men Girl.

I'm way into mystery/cop/spy shows right now. I think it's the romantic suspense thing. It's what I'm thinking about so it's what entertains me.

That said, there was this moment in the first season of Castle that won my loyalty for a long long time. His new book has just come out and his mother is calling him from the bookstores telling him how people aren't buying the book.

Having had my boyfriend's mother call me from every bookstore that wasn't stocking one of my books as I died a slow and painful internal death, I completely related to the situation, his pained reaction and just the whole megillah.

OH, Eileen... The things people do, thinking they're being helpful, when really they're stabbing you in the heart.

I can see how that won you over.

I remember liking the characters for Castle's mother and daughter... It was the cop who I didn't like. Or maybe I just didn't seen enough shows to get who she was. The pretty, rich girl turned cop thing seemed almost cliche to me. (But I'm basing this on 3 random episodes.)

I might try again this season.

Now see, I found the precocious perfect daughter thing a little irritating. I mean, I miss Gilmore Girls desperately, but it didn't totally work for me. I kind of liked the cop and when the actual Rick Castle book came out . . . well, it was like meta-meta-fiction or something. Cracked me up.

That does sound fun, Eileen... And you're right, the kooky mother and more-grown-up-than-her-parent daughter have both been done before, too.

I might try to get the DVD's for Castle if I find them cheaply... Or rent them. I can tell on Twitter and FB that a lot of writers LOVE that show, which is always a ringing endorsement for me. (Not to mention you liking it.)

I think I saw the pilot and then two random episodes through the season. So, I really haven't seen enough to have an opinion. (Other than I heart Nathan Fillion -- an opinion I had even before Castle started.)

It's hard not to heart Nathan big time. He's just so darn appealing. I follow his twitter feed. He completely cracks me up.

I had totally forgotten about The Vamp diaries.. that is something to look forward to, and Modern Family..

That's all I have, but it's something.

I love 30 Rock and even Community. I'm less enthusiastic for The Office. I miss Friday Night Lights already!

Okay, Lisa. Those are all comedies I watched last season, too. I am looking forward to all 3... but with eager anticipation? Maybe not. But I did like the season ending twist on Community. Wonder where they're going to take that...
