My Lifestyle is Catching Up With Me...

For years a friend and I made a huge deal about the Oscars. We had an ongoing bet about who could guess the most winners and it got elaborate. Sealed envelopes mailed across the country, faxes, midnight deadlines - it was a ball. The loser had to pay for this wildly decadent brunch on Easter in LA. That doesn't happen anymore - so so so sadly. It was a stupidly amazing brunch and I usually won. Since we've stopped doing that, I've stopped caring quite so much about the Oscars. This year I actually had a chance to see a few more Oscar films - of which I've seen ONE. And instead I choose to see In Bruges. (A great little film - highly recommend). Usually, I can be counted on to care about watching the Oscars. I really really like the dresses and Cate Blanchett's dress usually makes watching a three hour show totally worth it. And I love Jon Stewert.

I saw exactly ten minutes this year. I was asleep with my toddler at 9:30.

Javier Bardem (handsome dude) and his silver bedecked mother. That's what I saw. I heard there were some fun upsets in the actress category - that usually makes for some entertainment. But from what I saw on the red carpet -- the dresses were really boring. The jewelery was spectacular. But, again, I didn't see Cate.

So, tell me those of you with a more exciting life than mine -- how was it?

I enjoyed the show... but then again, I was watching on my PVR, didn't start watching until after 9:00, and wso as a little behind the entire time... That way I could whiz through the ads and the acceptance speeches by the sound guys.

Some of the dresses were nice... but a decided lack of bright colors... and I like bright colors.

No huge surprises in winners... Oh, the song from Once winning was a highlight. and when the woman didn't have time to do her acceptance speech, Jon Stewart brought her back on stage after the break and she gave it. Definitely the best part of the night. Plus hearing them sing that song. It really is hauntingly beautiful and utterly original. My TV might have had something flung at it if one of the songs from Enchanted had won. They were cute, but REALLY????

I used to be such an Oscars nerd. We'd plan parties around the event, always saw the big five nominated movies - and most of the actor nominated roles...

Gotta say, your nap with the toddler would have been my pick.

They were sadly boring last night. Not that I have a problem with any of the movies or winners, the entire evening just lacked lustre. The dresses were pretty but not wow, the gents looked nice, the speeches were okay, Jon Stewart was fine,...
It just had no pizzazz.

I'm with Maureen on the ONCE song -- it was the highlight of the evening.

Oh - and I watched it for the first time in HD. I almost wish I hadn't. I really didn't need to see John Travolta's pancake makeup or Cameron Diaz's big pores. Way too many close-ups!

c'mon over and I'll tell you all about it! Or, at least, what I liked! (In other words, Johnny Depp looked great!)

There weren't any awful embarrassing moments. It was kind of a relief, but I admit, also a bit of a letdown! The clothes were really very lovely but it wasn't a colourful year. I didn't think it was boring though, because I think Jon Stewart did a good job of keeping it moving along.

I thought Jon Stewart was hilarious. Of course, I was a little drunk. Sinead did not pull her weight on the bottle of wine I opened.

Dude, Cate was awesome. She's pregnant and still looked so, so beautiful.

Other than that, boring. Why do they have to show Jack Nicholson every fifth shot?

I stayed up long enough to get a case of raging envy for Jessica Alba's skin and boobs and then I went to bed.

I enjoyed them, but Maureen and I pvr's through the boring parts.
The Once song was a highlight for me as well. And Jon Stewart, and Javier.. And Maureen's rage at the three Enchanted songs..

The dresses were so boring... So safe, so predictable. And then saw Heidi Klum wearing an amazing red dress, Galliano Couture.
It wasn't a daring dress, but at least it was a little different. Why don't the others go Couture?

I spent way too much time thinking about this..

Heidi the Hick does have some fantastic coverage over on her blog. Cate Blanchett continues to be my total red carpet hero. Could she be any more beautiful and womanly? No. She couldn't.

Sorry I missed drunk Maureen's tirades. I like those.

I love Cate as a gutsy woman. She has huge feet (the largest I've ever seen on a woman - like canoes) yet she always plays them up (she'll wear a black gown and turquoise shoes). Bold.

BTW... Molly, we were talking about your books today on RomancingTheBlog (in the Book Trailer post comment section, believe it or not). The tangent topic was strong mommies in romance.
