Countdown to movies

There are some ways in which I'm a teenage boy at heart. I'll admit to loving horror movies, big blow 'em up visual extravaganzas, even dumb comedies. Even thinking about The Other Guys makes me giggle. Will Ferrell cracks me up every time.

So summer movie season was made for me. And now with the summer movie season inching closer to March, the season is longer. And it starts with John Carter, which not only has Taylor Kitch in basically a loin cloth, (those of you who watched FNL will understand why I'm excited for the movie) but visual effects and monsters. Perfect! even though the trailor does look pretty dumb.

And then the end of March has Hunger Games!!!!! which yes, at the thought I turn into a teenage girl, squeals included. The trailor for this looks incredible.

And then over the summer we have the final installment of the Batman series, which looks as fantastic as the other two that came before, Snow White and the Huntsmen, which, based on the trailor, looks spectacular and in case John Carter wasn't enough Taylor Kitsch, Battleship, yes, the movie based on the boardgame. For all the subtlety and depth you would expect based on a "you sunk my battleship" statement. It looks really dumb and even that isn't enough to turn me away.

The fall season is when the smart, creative, well thought out and character driven movies come out. Summer season is when things go boom, and after watching some really wonderful, character driven movies over the past few months, I'm ready for boom.

idLOL. We had a run of date nights where we saw District 9, Zombieland and the A-Team. I think I picked all three movies. I totally get your teenage boy thing.

I'm on the fence about Hunger Games. I loved the book and my general rule is that if I loved the book, I don't want to see the movie. It's already in my head the way I want it. I am curious to see how they're going to pull it off, keep the intensity and violence and yet not end up with an R rating.

I think I'm down for Hunger Games. My issue is I don't want to see the next two. In my mind Hunger Games was a perfect story. Why muddy it up with everything that came after.

Ready for boom. LOL.

Also loved this: "For all the subtlety and depth you would expect based on a "you sunk my battleship" statement."

I was at the movies last weekend and they had live actors promoting the John Carter movie in the lobby, dressed in costume, waving around a fake old newspaper and asking, "Have you seen this man?"
I replied, Tim Riggins? They were not amused. (or perhaps were not FNL fans.)

I wasn't sure about The Hunger Games until I saw the trailer. The way that Jennifer Lawrence says, "I volunteer," sold me.

My sweetie is a sci-fi geek from way back and he's cautiously excited for the John Carter movie. I see another date night in my future . . .

Although tonight we're seeing The Artist.

Re: The Artist. Just get ready to smile. It's "fluff" but such a feel-good movie. And that dog... :)

A little feel good sounds about right these days.

Eileen, have you seen Fright Night? It's pretty great, smart and funny and as far as vamps go, Colin Farrell is a fantastic choice...

and yes, Hunger Games. I read an interview with the director and he's so passionate about the book that it made me excited for the movie.

I'm really looking forward to the third Batman movie as well.

Other than the fact that the Hunger Games movie has a female lead character, which is commendable for Hollywood, I'm not sure why it's getting so much hype based on the trailer. Perhaps I'm missing something about the original source material for the movie.

If you haven't read the book The Hunger Games you should. :) We're all excited about the movie because we loved the book so much. 24 children fighting to the death for the entertainment of an elite segment of society. What's not to love? ;)
