A very Kindle Christmas

I am a really nostalgic person. And for me the act of reading a book in my bed is part nostaliga part habit. All love. And when I asked for a Kindle I thought primarily it would be helpful with my critique group so I wouldn't be reading manuscripts on my computer. Because there was no way that a Kindle was better than reading a book.

And it's not. Not really. What it is however is way better than how I usually buy books. Like, hugely better. Like the best thing ever. I never get to book stores - I live in a huge city and love bookstores, but I never get there. SO, for years I've done most of my book shopping on line. And then waited for the books to arrive.

But I am a junkie. A filthy dirty reading junkie. I am Bubbles with books - a heart of gold, yes, but I will do anything to get my next fix.

Having a kindle is like living with a dealer.

Since getting my Kindle the day after Christmas, I have read Cecilia Grant's AMAZING! Truly truly amazing A Lady Awakened (I can't wait to talk about this, so hurry up and read it guys!) Courtney Milan's self-published Novella and novel. I've started Joanna Bournes' Black Hawk. And Stephen King's latest.

And there's no way I'm the only one like this - buying books like crazy. Full-priced, mostly agency books. Those three million Kindle's sold in the weeks before Christmas are an exciting reality. I'm not sure what it will all mean, but for me it means more books, faster. My habit and the habit of at least three million other readers will only get worse. I mean better. Or something.

How about you guys? Kindle Christmas?

Welcome to the Kindle nation Molly!!!

I never thought I would leave books either - but you'll see. After a few months on your Kindle if someone actually hands you a book you're going to be like ugh... you mean I have to turn pages? It doesn't just remember where I left off? What sort of eReader is this?

I also read A Lady Awakened - A-freakin- mazing. We so need her in a cage match with someone.

After losing my first kindle, I just ordered my second which is due to arrive next month. And I'm anxious for it.
There are books I have lined up to read on it, Including Courtney Milan's latest and some back lists that are so inexpensive on the kindle..

It's my favourite electronic device...

I definitely both buy and read more books since I bought the kindle. I love reading it on the TTC or movie theatres before the movie starts, or just about anytime I have a spare moment.

I still love printed books but my kindle is great for sampling writers I'm curious about, or supporting self-pubbed friends. Just bought a book last night by a writer-acquaintance who was nice enough to write me and tell me how much her girls enjoyed my books... I figured I'd check out her book. So much easier to download for 4 or 5 bucks than order and wait for it to ship.

I'm on my second Kindle - I got the Kindle Fire for Christmas. And you're right - it's like being a junky - instant gratification. Currently I have 166 books on mine that are NOT read (who knows how many I've sent to archives!)

Love it, love it, love it!

I have a Nook.I wanted it instead of a Kindle because when I got it you couldn't check out ebooks from the library with a Kindle (you can now, btw, at least at my library).

I just adore it. It's in my purse all the time so I never have to sit there wishing I brought a book. I can read other people's manuscripts and I even upload crochet patterns onto it. So much easier than those pieces of paper all over the place.

I actually like reading on it better than reading a paper book. I like that it keeps my place when I fall asleep. I like that I can change the type size if m eyes get tired. I love love love the dictionary. I sort of resent having to read something in actual book form anymore.

What a fun topic! I'm with Maureen - I have a bunch of Kindle books downloaded but I prefer paperback.

As a writer, I'm thrilled about Kindle sales because, as an Indie, I sell more books on Kindle than anything else. As a reader, I find it comes in handy if I remember the books I have on Kindle. I tend to forget about them - out of sight, out of mind - unlike a paperback that's always in my face.

I would love to embrace the Kindle more - hey, maybe that'll be my goal for 2012 - read more on my Kindle. It would make my office far neater. :)
