New Website...win books...summer clothes

I loved living in Santa Barbara, but it probably wouldn't be good for my career. The seasons changing gives me a huge amount of juice. The air gets cooler and I'm ready to hunker down and get work done, the air gets warmer and I'm ready to hunker down and get even more work done. It's a nice little shot in the arm, and I need all the help I can get.

I cleaned out my closet and realize that putting together five outfits in a row for Nationals that don't have stains or aren't made up of pieces from the last decade will be impossible. Unless there's a giant playground at Nationals, and that's where I'll be hanging out. Pushing writers on the swings. Catching Editors as they come down the slide... blowing bubbles...that sort of thing.

So, that's causing me some stress. Luckily, Sinead has volunteered to take over and class up my image.

I've also gotten a new website - fabulous fabulous Simone has totally classed up my online presence. I'm running a contest, the prize being a gift certificate to Amazon. So go to www.molly-okeefe.com to check it out and enter.

How about you guys? Do you have new energy with the seasons changing? Or does summer force you on hiatus?

I definitely missed the changing seasons when I lived in California. I remember most what an odd feeling it was when the days started getting shorter, without a comparable change in the weather -- or the leaves. Seasons really can give you a turning over a new leaf, a new start, kind of feeling. That said, every time the weather sucks here, I miss California. :)

Here's to new images! Love the new website, Molly!

Molly love the site. Love the picture. Perfect.

I'm a HUGE season girl. Each one fires me up in a different way.

We had some record breaking 7 feet of snow this past winter and everyone was moaning and groaning. Not me.

Summer is hot. Winter is cold and snowy. Fall is crisp. And spring is wet.

Just the way I like it.

I can't believe you stole my blog topic for tomorrow! I was totally going to blog about Summer Reset.

Summer is probably my most productive time of the year. Maybe it's because the kids' schedules aren't so rigid. Or it might be because of the longer hours of light. Whatever.

All I know is that it appears to be here in northern California. After a really cold wet spring, it's now in the 90s. I'm starting to get up early to run before work. It seems like there are way more hours in the day. I love it.

Fall depresses me. Winter irritates me. I start revving up in the spring and summer is my go go go season.

Wah! I miss the seasons. Here in Texas, we have four, sort of. The biggest season is blazing hot summer. Starts in May, ends in October (if we're lucky). Winter starts in December and ends in February. Usually it's just rainy, but this year we got snow. Spring - eh. If we're lucky, it's fantastic. Sometimes rain, sometimes just nice - 70's and 80's. Spring is March and April here. And Fall? Maybe, Maybe we get November.

When I lived in New York, fall was my favorite time of the yar. I loved the bite in the air, the changing leaves, the brisk winds. Talk about jump start. Man, I miss it.

This year we actually got a foot of snow - unheard of in North Texas. I loved it. Adored it. Hubby, not so much.

It's true Eileen - you do get so much done. There are days I can honestly say I: worked out, wrote five pages, went to the park, went to the grocery store, cooked dinner, went for a walk with kids after dinner, gave everyone a bath, put them to bed, wrote a few more pages, drank half a glass of wine, passed out with a book on my face. It's incredible!!

Thanks guys for the website love - Simone did a great job!

I have to say, I'm most productive in the winter. Cold days and nights when I have no desire to go outside. However, my youngest daughter (13), the one of my three children who demands/requires the most attention, is going to sleep away camp for two months this summer. So I WILL be productive this summer. I WILL be productive this summer. Maybe the more I say it, the more chance it will come true!

I've never really thought about my productivity in seasonal terms... I'm more a stage in the book kind of productive... but hoping this summer will be really revved up..

And shopping... can't wait... will I ever get tired of shopping??

Oh, yeah! I forgot about the part in the post about shopping for Nationals. Plus Molly and Maureen are going to need killer Rita dresses. I'm just trying to lose enough weight so that I can wear one of the old ones. I think I have about three or four now that I just cycle through.

Molly O'Keefe said...

Eileen - how dressy are your dresses? I know things get pretty glittery, but there's a range, right? Where are you in the spectrum...

Stephanie Doyle said...

Molly - I know you asked Eileen but you need to prepare for the "stage"

That means take out your best prom dress, the one with the beading and the ruffles and get that puppy ready!!!!!

Eileen said...

Oops! Somehow missed that one! For Rita night? As a Finalist? Definitely pull out all the glitter, sugar! It's definite evening gown material.

Stephanie. 7 feet of snow. You got all ours. We not almost none. I didn't even use my shovel this year. (I did use a broom to brush off the steps a few times.)

Crazy winter.

And Eileen. Molly and I had already made a pact not to get too dressed up. Sigh. Do I really need to buy a dress? LOL

Stephanie Doyle said...

Maureen... on the dress... yes.

I know you guys are probably playing it cool. It's just an honor to be nominated (and it is!) blah blah blah...

But let me paint a picture in case you haven't already. The announcer opens the envelope pulls out the card and reads your name.

People cheering, screaming. (That will be me and the rest of the DWT contingent). Tears... that will be you - I love a crier at these things.

Big stage, long walk, big lights, "the moment"

Are you doing that in a dress you've already worn to a couple of nationals that you just pulled out of your closet?

I don't think so.

Eileen said...

Not get dressed up? Really? When you're a finalist? Really? Maybe just a little decolletage? Or a sequin or two? For me?

Molly O'Keefe said...

it's not like I'm wearing jeans for crying out loud - it's a nice dress with a GREAT necklace. The truth is - I have to buy ALL NEW CLOTHES for this trip - I mean, I have nothing suitable that's even casual, much less librarian's tea suitable, or cocktail party suitable...I haven't shopped in EONS! So, if the budget holds out and Sinead doesn't convince me that I need three hundred dollar shoes - I might get some bling. We'll see.
