Hunger games is going to be turned into a movie, but no one yet has been cast. So I still have time to imagine who my ideal cast would be. Entertainment weekly is also playing the same game, but I don't agree with the majority of their picks.
1) Katniss - so tough, this casting. She has to be young, but tough, and intelligent and wise beyond her years. I'm thinking of Saoirse Ronan. I loved her in Atonement and I do think she has the wise beyond her years thing going.
2) Peeta- Ok, bear with me on this, but I see Cory Monteith in here. I realize this is slightly crazy, but based on the story about Glee in rolling stone, I think this kid might be able to act and he has that slightly innocent, blank faced impression that makes Katniss underestimate Peeta.
3) Gale - Armie Hammer. From the Social network.
4) Prim - Elle Fanning.
5) Haymitch - here is where I really agree with EW - who suggested Robert Downey Jr.
And Eileen, while reading Don't kill the messenger, I had pictured Emily Blunt in the role, I'd be curious to know who you would cast.
Anyone else want to cast some books?

I see the ex-boyfriend from Vampire Diaries as Peeta. He's going to have to have something going for him ;) http://www.imdb.com/name/nm1813534/
peaking of casting, did you see they want Katherine Heigl for Claire in Outlander?
MJ, I haven't read the Outlander series, but I had heard and not sure how to react. I don't think it's good casting.
Also, she's playing Stephanie Plum, which I'm not in love with either.. They needed someone genuinely funny for that role, (Tina Fey can't be in everything) but perhaps the brunette from Community.. Alison Brie?
And love, love your choice for Peeta. Matt would be great.
Love all your picks! Yeah, I saw that Robert Downey idea in EW and thought YES!
Yes Robert Downey jr. and YES corey Monteith - that would be a great role for him - he'd break out of the glee thing for sure and he has size. he looks big - and like he knows how to bake....
That they are thinking of Katherine Heigel for Outlander actually ruins my day.
Despite risking being drummed out of DWT, I haven't read the series yet. I've got it on reserve at the library, but based on the list, I should have it some time in 2019.
I actually sort of had young Rachel Weisz in my head for Melina, not so much to actually cast her, but for facial features, etc.
Thinking about Katherine Heigle as Stephanie Plum ruined my day...
Totally agree with Downey and Corey.
But let's face it. This is Hollywood. It will probably Abigail Breslin as Katniss... because they know she's "bankable"
Interesting list, Sinead. I do think maybe Corey Monteith has the right mix of sweetness and loyalty, but isn't he, like 30? or something? Sure he plays a teen on TV... He does have a young face/demeanor for his age... They need to find a younger version of him.
In slightly related news, I went to see the Facebook movie last night. And Armie Hammer was awesome. I didn't realize until the credits that it was only one actor. He played the twins so different from each other.
The other person who caught my eye was Rooney Mara. She didn't have a huge part, but I noticed her enough to remember her name. Then realized where I'd heard it before... She's been cast as Lisbet in the american remakes of the Steig Larson stories... I'm starting to have more hope for those films... Daniel Craig, her and I recently heard Christopher Plummer as Vanger...
Oh, and Sinead. Good idea about Alison Brie and Stephanie Plum. I've become a huge Alison Brie fan. I was watching Mad Men the other night and thinking, boy she seems familiar. Although I watch both Community and Mad Men religiously, it took me ages to connect that Pete Campbell was married to Annie on Community. ;) She plays the parts so differently.
Oh, I just saw MJ's idea about Matt from Vampire Diaries. Yes. I concur. :)
"he looks big - and like he knows how to bake...."
Molly, LMAO at this. ;)
Oh, on Katnis. Maybe the girl who's in Let Them In right now? She was also in Kick Ass, right? Maybe she's a tad young at this second... But by the time they film...
Cloe Moretz. That's her name.
I love the Saoirse Ronan idea, though...
I love Katherine Heigl, but as Claire? Claire has no sense of humor and Heigl is all about the rom com stuff.
HelLO, Kate Winslet has to play Claire. She's the one I pictured all through the books (the first four, anyway, which are the ones I read).
I do not love Katherine Heigl. At all. In anything.
