Most of the time I love love. Young couples smooching on the street make me stop and smile. I often applaud when the couple finally kisses in the movie or the TV show. I get all swoony when one of my friends' husbands steps up to the plate and surprises her with jewelry or a trip or anything that makes her feel fabulous.
So when do I hate romance? Apparently when it's in a commercial. Those "Every Kiss Begins with K" commercials that will be playing nonstop from now to Christmas make me want to puke. Honestly, does that dude think it will really help unpack all those boxes to give her a necklace? Forget the diamonds, man. Start putting together some shelves!
Truth be known, I also despite those Jared commercials and the Zales commercials and I've been known to turn the car radio off the second I hear Tom Shane's voice, so maybe it's just jewelry commercials that set my teeth on edge. Perhaps not, though, because there's a few perfume commercials that make me want to scream as well.
Maybe it's just the start of my usual hatred of all things holiday starting up because of the commercials. Or perhaps I'm becoming prematurely curmudgeonly.
Is there any place where you hate to see romance? Or is it good for you wherever you find it?

There was one a few years ago and I liked it at the time - pre kids - it's night, a woman is rocking a baby. She looks fine, but it's night and she's rocking a baby and probably has been for hours - and the guy, in his pajamas comes to the doorway and then hands her one of those jewelery boxes.
Since kids I've thought about that commercial which was something I was prepared to show to my husband as a road map of what he should do and now all I can think is why isn't he taking that baby? Letting her get some sleep? Or shower?
You're not alone...
HATE the jewelry comercials! Hate'em.
I also hate Valentines Day.
I don't know - I think it's when someone tells you there should be romance and love - that I resent it.
Let romance and love come naturally. And jewelry in my opinion should be personal and individual - not some cookie cutter design any woman might have.
It's so good not to be alone! I feel lie I should love those commercials, but they make me ill!
I'm also not a Valentine's Day fan, although I did try to watch that movie . . . Couldn't get through it, though.
That Valentine's Day movie was the worst! I'm not surprised you couldn't get through it, Eileen. It was trying so hard to be Love Actually but not one of the stories rang true.
Not a fan of jewelry commercials, either.
OMG! I so wanted Valentine's Day to be Love Actually, too. It so wasn't. There's a New Year's Eve rom com ensemble thing coming out this winter. I wonder if it'll be the next Love Actually.
That movie is by the same people that did the Valentine's movie, so my guess it will be the next Valentine's day......
Hate the commercials as well. I'd rather have a new pair of shoes... and buy them for myself....
Seriously? That's disappointing.
I'm not sure I even want shoes. Definitely don't want the mass-produced jewelry though. Don't even get me started on that stupid Open Heart thing with Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman.
I am so glad I'm not the only one who rolls my eyes at the jewelry ads. I mean any guy can roll into a jewelry store and get suckered into something expensive and shiny.
I have often told my husband he's the luckiest guy in the world because there was only one piece of jewelry I ever wanted from him and I've been wearing it on my left hand for 18+ years.
The truly romantic gifts are the ones that would get him in trouble with any other woman. He got me a table saw for my birthday one year. And we used to go to San Francisco Giants games for our anniversary every year. That was before our kids started playing Little League and killed our weekends.
