Best Vacation Ever!

I have been on vacation now for what will be four days today. I didn’t go anywhere. I didn’t have to catch a flight. I didn’t have to pack. I didn’t have to set up care for the kitties.

Instead, I planned to have a back room carpeted. I needed to add an electrical socket to a wall. I wanted to organize my shoes. I wanted to get rid of all my old T-shirts which no longer fit and have stains on them. And of course I found time for a pedicure.

I also wanted to write. I had a new book to start and this was the perfect week to just sit down and start cranking out pages. So far forty pages in four days. Right on track.

Every time I think I couldn’t do this full time I have one of these amazingly productive and relaxing weeks and wonder. Now my career being what it is, I have no choice but to work and write. But I used to think even if someday I hit it big I would still want to work in my office.

As a single person with no kids I always imagined the solitary lifestyle would get to me. But after four days, six if you count the weekend, with only the workers who’ve come to the house to chat with and my cats naturally, I am in bliss.

Maybe I’m part hermit. All I know that having the day to write and think about writing and organize things – which I compulsively love to do – it’s been heaven.

Now if the Phillies could win the World Series… well that’s just icing on the top.

Every once in a while such a vacation is great isn't it? - although forty pages in four days. I don't know if you can call that vacation.

I have to say, I'm loving my new life. I write 1500 words a day and actually take the weekends off. Though I do occasionally miss having a reason to wear something other than t-shirts and yoga pants (or running shorts).

Ryshia - when I don't have to worry about anything else... trust me writing is a vacation.

And Karen - I haven't been out of my yoga pants and t-shirts yet!

Stephanie, sounds like an amazing vacation.... I love my yoga pants... but 'm not sure I would ever want to work entirely from home... I like heading to an office in the morning.

My perfect life would be if I had an office job, too, but one where I could decide whether I felt like going in that day or not. ;) Or where they just expected me 3 days a week and I could choose the days. Oh, what a dream that would be.
I do like a quasi routine and think I'm more productive when I have some routine in my life, but then I quickly start to resent anyone dictating where I have to be and when. Cause I'm difficult like that. ;)

I'm doing 25 hours a week at my day job right now and it's about 5 -10 hours too much schedule-wise. I think 15 hours would be ideal.

Eileen - I'm with you. 15 hours would be perfect. I would even go as high as 20.

My problem is starting next week it's back to 50+. But I'm not thinking about Monday. I have one full day of bliss remaining!

I like the sound of your vacation - we're back from ours and I need some silent bliss and about four straight days alone with this mms. I started dreaming about sitting at my computer halfway through our trip - that seemed sad to me. Steph - I toast you and your bliss.
